RISD Museum Rebranding

October - December 2024

Where tradition meets innovation and art becomes a celebration of diverse perspectives and ideas, the RISD Museum promotes a space that invites curiosity, fosters engagement, and inspires creativity.

The reimagined branding for the RISD Museum is designed to emphasize its vibrant spirit and dynamic nature, reflecting diverse artistic traditions. This rebranding adds a sense of approachability and youthfulness.

Logo

The new branding leverages counter forms and dynamic shapes to emphasize negative space, creating a bold, cohesive identity. The logo integrates "RISD" in white with the background, "Museum" in RISD’s signature blue for grounding, and overlapping sky-blue shapes to enhance the counter form effect, achieving a clean and engaging aesthetic.

Color Palette

The color palette builds on RISD’s classic white and bold blue, with the addition of a light sky blue for a youthful touch. This transitional hue balances the depth of the dark blue with the brightness of the white, creating a cohesive, harmonious design.

Each upcoming exhibition can be promoted by integrating their images into the logo’s shapes, linking them to the RISD Museum’s branding while reflecting each show's essence.

Poster Design featuring Jesse Burke’s As Long As The Grass Shall Grow (2013)

The RISD Museum poster features a photograph showcasing a young boy lounging on a grassy field, holding a raccoon. The design utilizes the logo's shapes, varying their scale and positioning to create an impression that the elements extend beyond what is visible.
