Shell Squeezer

March - April 2024

A seashell-inspired citrus juicer that combines coastal design with practicality. Its smooth grooves converge at a single point and bring the movement of the sea right to your very own kitchen.

Form Inspiration

After exploring the exhibitions and collections at the RISD Museum, I was drawn to a seashell-shaped ladle with curved grooves that fan out from the handle outward. The texture and bumps along the sides made me want to glide my finger across, prompting me to study the shape more.

I was also drawn to the shell of a turtle, with its overlapping scales, blotchy patterns, and coloring that contribute to its elaborate appearance.

Exploring Curves and Understanding Form

Using high-density foam, I carved a citrus squeezer, incorporating similar shapes from the seashell ladle. I applied the same concept of converging curves, bringing them together at the top of the squeezer, where the white sponge of the citrus fruit rests.
